An A-35 ‘WATERBUG’ 2.5HP Outboard motor by Johnson, Southbend, Indiana. USA, 1927.

In the early 1900’s, four brothers from Indiana, USA were making small motors, which they were pioneering in aviation and motorcycles before turning to marine use.

They soon founded Johnson Bros. Motor Company and began producing inboard and outboard engines.
In 1921, Lou Johnson designed and started to produce the model ‘A’ which sold well and became affectionately known as ‘Waterbugs’.

Light weight, tilting action, rope pull start, swivel shaft and small size magneto ignition were industry firsts and by 1926 Johnson was a leader in the industry with an elaborate manufacturing facility close to Lake Michigan.

With wall hanging bracket.
